Gastonia, NC (September 12, 2025) The City of Gastonia’s Free Excess Household Trash Week will be September 22-26, 2025. This weeklong event allows citizens the opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted excess household trash, free of charge.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: There will be no yard waste collection during this week. City residents can properly dispose of unwanted household items for free during this special event, such as:
- Furniture
- Mattresses & Bedsprings
- Paint Cans (dried out)
- Extra bags and boxes of garbage
The following items WILL NOT be collected: Building materials, dirt, rocks, bricks, hazardous liquids, batteries, and automotive parts. These items can be disposed of at the Gaston County Landfill.
Citizens may place eligible items curbside on the week of their regular garbage collection day. Please note that depending on the trash volume, collection may run late or occur on the following day. Placing loose items, such as toys, clothes, and other small items in garbage bags or boxes allows crews to safely and more efficiently transport items to the trucks for proper disposal.
Vehicle tires on and off the rim, electronics, and appliances will be collected for a fee. Please visit the Free Excess Trash Week webpage for more information.
The City encourages residents to seek alternative sustainable options first, such as recycling at a convenient recycling center or repurposing or donating slightly used items. Please visit the City of Gastonia’s website for a list of recycling drop off centers.
