The City of Gastonia has tapped Mr. Brian Gray as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead the day-to-day operations of the Technology Services Department. Gray, who has been serving as Assistant Director of Technology Services, replaces Chris Koltyk who resigned as CIO in July. He officially began his new duties on August 15.
Gray is a technology executive with more than 20 years of experience in Information Technology (IT), cybersecurity, infrastructure, and digital transformation across the public, private, and higher education sectors. He has held progressive leadership roles with the City of Gastonia, including Security Analyst and Chief Technology Officer, where he has led enterprise technology initiatives, strengthened cybersecurity programs, and aligned technology strategy with organizational priorities.
Before joining the City of Gastonia, Gray spent nearly a decade with Ellucian Corporation supporting Lenoir-Rhyne University as Director of Technical Services, leading IT teams, budgets, major technology projects, and multi-campus initiatives.
Gray holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Belmont Abbey College and is a Certified Government Chief Information Officer through UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Government.
Gray is passionate about using technology to solve problems, improve services, and build strong teams. When he is not working, Gray enjoys spending time with his daughter and being outdoors, including hunting, motorcycle riding, and hiking with their dogs, Glitch, Shelby, and Atlas.
