Mayor Richard Franks

Mayor Richard Franks, a Gastonia native, was elected Gastonia’s 44th mayor in November 2023. He graduated from Hunter Huss High school and studied human services at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. A retired businessman, he previously owned a screen-printing and embroidery company in Gastonia. Mayor Franks previously lived off and on in Memphis, Tennessee for more than a decade and recently returned to Gastonia eight years ago.

Mayor Franks is a member of the Metropolitan Transit Commission, member of the North Carolina Metropolitan Mayors Coalition, and has completed the Essentials in Municipal Government Course by the UNC School of Government.

Mayor Franks and his wife live in Gastonia and attend a local church in Gastonia.
