Officer Involved Shooting in Gastonia
For Immediate Release – May 9, 2024
Gastonia, NC. – At 6:42 this morning a woman was involved in a small traffic accident in the parking lot of the Walmart located in Franklin Square at 3000 East Franklin in Gastonia. The car she was driving was stuck up in the middle of the median on a small tree. A man stopped to assist her. At that point, she began to fire a gun she had.
Gastonia Police Officers arrived having been dispatched to the traffic incident in the parking lot. One officer fired his weapon hitting the woman one time. The gunshot wound is not believed to be life-threatening. The woman had three children in her car with her, a girl age 10, and two boys ages 7 and 1 respectively. The 1-year-old boy was transported to the hospital as a precaution for respiratory issues.
The Gastonia Police Department Office of Professional Standards will conduct an internal review of the incident. All further questions and inquiries should be directed to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
