Business Sewer/Wastewater Service

 
The Two Rivers Utilities Wastewater Division manages and services more than 20,000 sewer connections and 485 miles of sewer lines. The Division also provides services to Ranlo, Kings Mountain, Bessemer City, and Clover, SC.
 
The focus of the Two Rivers Utilities Wastewater Division is safety and protection of our environment. As a part of the Division’s goal to be an exemplary environmental steward and to strive for performance that consistently exceeds compliance, the Division has completed a rigorous certification process to meet international ISO 14001 standards for its environmental management system (EMS). ISO 14001 is a voluntary program with established standards for environmental systems. With its completion of the certification process, the Two Rivers Utilities Wastewater Division became the first certified ISO 14001 public agency in N.C., making it one of the top five wastewater treatment facilities in the U.S.
 
As part of the requirements to provide wastewater service to businesses, the Division operates a pretreatment program as directed by the federal EPA and NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR) guidelines. The program is designed to protect the collection system, treatment plants, employees and the waters where businesses discharge effluent.
 
Because the City inspects and permits commercial kitchens and automotive and carwash businesses, a NCDENR permit requires the City to operate a Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) program. The program provides educational information to all customers, with a special emphasis on businesses, on preventing sewer blockages caused by grease.
