Pollinator Friendly Beds around the city...
We are always looking for ways to celebrate, promote and enhance Gastonia's Bee City USA affiliation through bee education, beautification, and community art.
Fire Stations
In the fall of 2022, we received a grant from the Community Foundation to plant mini meadows at all of the fire stations!
They have bloomed and are providing habitat and nector for our pollinator friends.

Farmers Market
The idea to bring life to the Farmers Market has been brought to reality by Keep Gastonia Beautiful through a grant from the Community Foundation. This area has been planted with pollinator-friendly flowers and is protected from pesticides to provide valuable habitat for bees and other pollinators.
These educational raised garden beds were donated to Keep Gastonia Beautiful by a dedicated environmentalist, chemist, and local lavender farmer, John Rowley. Reengineered from dock floats, that could no longer serve their original purpose, these raised beds are one example of upcycling materials. These beds will not rot or rust, they do not have pressure-treating chemicals, and have outstanding resistance to termites, UV rays, and other environmental effects. These unique raised beds are made of polyethylene, which is also used to make milk jugs. The dock floats were cut in half to create a sturdy and salvaged piece that would otherwise take up a great deal of space in a landfill, which fits with the mission of Keep Gastonia Beautiful. For more information on how you can obtain one, contact John Rowley directly at 704-616-7114.
Offices for Keep Gastonia Beautiful are located at the Garland Municipal Business Center at 150 S. York Street on the second floor.
