FEMA has approved over $170 million to more than 112,000 households to help North Carolinians as they recover from Tropical Storm Helene. FEMA and the state of North Carolina are working to ensure survivors of Tropical Storm Helene are in safe, functional housing.
Reimbursement for out-of-pocket hotel costs, financial assistance towards rent and home repair, and FEMA-provided temporary hotel or motel stays are currently being provided to eligible households. FEMA is providing Direct Temporary Housing Assistance (DTHA) to qualifying households in 25 counties. DTHA may be provided in three forms: Direct Lease, Multifamily Lease and Repair and Transportable Temporary Housing Units.

Online via DisasterAssistance.gov or the FEMA app https://www.fema.gov/about/news-multimedia/mobileproducts are the fastest options. You can also apply by calling 800-621-3362 or in person at a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC).
To find a DRC nearest you, visit FEMA.gov/drc or text “DRC” and a zip code to 43362. Disaster survivors can visit any open center, including locations in other states. No appointment is needed.

Gaston County, NC residents affected by Hurricane Helene can meet with a FEMA professional in person at several Gaston County locations starting October 28th, 2024. All sites will be open to the public.
