Our Regional Crisis Negotiator Team consists of 14 officers from Gastonia Police Department, Gaston County Sheriffs Office, Belmont Police, and Mobile Crisis Clinicians from Phoenix Counseling. They respond to many crisis calls, from suicidal subjects and mental health crises to barricaded subjects.
Team members are trained in Crisis Intervention, Hostage Negotiating, active listening, and communication skills. In addition, they have experience in de-escalating volatile situations.
Their training extends beyond Gaston County; they spend time training with the NC Justice Academy, FBI, and other local negotiation teams.
