FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GASTONIA, N.C. – September 8, 2021 - On August 8, 2021, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Gastonia Police responded to a home in the 600 block of West Fifth Avenue for a shooting that had just occurred. Upon arrival, officers found 29-year-old Markovia Lashawn Durham inside the home and deceased from a gunshot wound.
After a thorough investigation, it was determined that a juvenile in the home accidentally discharged a firearm which caused a projectile to strike Durham.
Investigators consulted with the Gaston County District Attorney's Office and no charges will be filed in this case.
