Gastonia, N.C. – October 20, 2021 -Detectives from the Gastonia Police Department – Traffic Enforcement Bureau are investigating a fatal collision involving a motorcycle that occurred yesterday evening. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact investigators at 704-842-5166.
On Tuesday, October 19 at approximately 7:19 p.m., officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to N. New Hope Road at Auten Road for the report of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2012 Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycle was traveling northbound on N. New Hope Road approaching Auten Road. A 2008 Honda CRV was southbound on N. New Hope Road attempting to turn left onto Auten Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Yamaha motorcycle and the CRV collided in the intersection.
The operator of the motorcycle is identified as Bryan Alexander Del Gado, age 22, of Hoyle Street in Dallas, North Carolina. Del Gado was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the CRV is identified as Lynn Anthony Rothrock, age 74, of Douglas Drive in Gastonia. He was not injured in the collision.
This collision remains under investigation.
