GASTONIA, N.C. – November 5, 2021 – Detectives from the Gastonia Police Department have arrested and charged Christopher Levi Stewart, age 44, of Woodfield Circle in Gastonia, with offenses related to the shooting of a 69-year-old male that occurred yesterday afternoon inside a home on W. Nineteenth Avenue in Gastonia. Investigators do not believe that this shooting was random.
Yesterday afternoon (Thursday, November 4), at approximately 2.23 p.m., Gastonia Police Department officers responded to a home in the 700 block of W. Nineteenth Avenue for the report of a shooting that had just occurred. Responding officers located the victim inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound. Fire and Rescue personnel transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
During the investigation, detectives identified Stewart as a suspect in the shooting. Late yesterday evening, Stewart was interviewed at Gastonia Police Department Headquarters and charged with offenses to include assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy.
The investigation is ongoing. Detectives continue to work to determine a motive for the shooting and if Stewart and the victim were known to each other.
