UPDATED: Early Morning Vehicle Collision I-85 near Exit 14
On Monday, September 25, 2023, at approximately 3:25 AM, the Gastonia Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision on Interstate 85 northbound near Exit 14. The collision involved a Chevrolet pick-up truck and a moped. The moped was traveling north on Interstate 85 when he was struck by the truck. The moped driver was transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with critical injuries and then transferred to Atrium Health in Charlotte for further care. The Gastonia Police Department Traffic Division is investigating this collision. This is an active investigation, and anyone with information or who may have witnessed the wreck is asked to contact the Gastonia Police Department at 704-866-6702 and ask to speak with Officer Koeppel or Officer Carpenter. Names of the drivers will be released pending proper notification of family members.
UPDATE: Mr. Michael Eller, age 33, years old from Lenoir, North Carolina, was driving his moped north on Interstate 85 near exit 14. While driving his moped, Mr. Eller changed lanes and struck into the side of a Chevy truck driven by Terrance Ragin, age 44 years old, of Summerton, South Carolina. The collision is still under investigation and the condition of the moped driver is not available at this time.
