Gastonia Police Apprehend Armed Suspects in Break-In on Barkley Street
Gastonia, N.C. – Gastonia Police officers quickly apprehended three armed suspects after they broke into an unoccupied apartment at 840 Barkley Street this afternoon. The suspects, identified as two juveniles and one adult, were taken into custody without serious incident following reports from vigilant neighbors and the property manager.
At approximately 1:30 this afternoon, the Gastonia Police Department received multiple 911 calls from neighbors reporting suspicious activity at the vacant apartment. Patrol units, along with K-9 Max, responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers located the suspects. Two attempted to run on foot but were quickly apprehended by patrol officers. The third suspect surrendered without incident. The adult suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Chrishaune Sanders. Further investigation revealed that one of the juveniles was wanted out of Charlotte for Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, a serious felony charge. At least one handgun was recovered at the scene.
No injuries were reported, and the apartment was unoccupied at the time of the crime.
“We’re grateful to the community members who reported the suspicious activity and helped prevent a potentially dangerous situation from escalating,” said Gastonia Police Chief Trent Conard. “This is another example of how strong partnerships between residents and law enforcement keep our neighborhoods safer.”
The investigation is ongoing. Charges are pending, and the juveniles are being processed in accordance with juvenile justice protocols.
