Officer Involved Shooting, One Person Killed

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 18, 2025

Gastonia, NC –  Gastonia Police Department Officers were involved in a shooting at a home located at 4356 Hickory Hollow Road.

At 10:32 P.M. on Thursday July 17, Gastonia Police Patrol Officers were dispatched to a call of an assault happening at the above-listed address.

When Officers arrived minutes later, they encountered a male relative of the suspect in the driveway of the home who indicated that the suspect was in the home, armed, and had fired off at least one shot.

The suspect, now identified as Jeremy Jackson Bonham, DOB 11/12/85, appeared from the rear of the home in the dark and opened fire on our officers with a rifle. Multiple Gastonia Police Officers returned fire killing the suspect.  No Gastonia Officers were injured.

Per routine procedure, all of the officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.   The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.  All questions should be directed to their agency.
