Gastonia Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run on Garrison Boulevard
GASTONIA, N.C. — The Gastonia Police Department has arrested Laketta Shunta English (DOB: 02/26/1989) in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on October 19, 2025, on Garrison Boulevard.
English was taken into custody at her residence in Gastonia by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. She is charged with Felony Hit and Run Resulting in Injury or Death and failure to maintain lane control.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. on October 19, 2025, a vehicle struck two pedestrians on Garrison Boulevard, seriously injuring one and killing the other. The deceased was identified as Cody Cochran.
Through a weeklong, extensive review of video footage and data—utilizing the technology and resources of the GPD Real Time Crime Center (RTCC)—traffic investigators located the suspected vehicle on Friday, October 24. The vehicle, a 2021 Mazda CX-9 SUV, was found hidden at a residence within a half-mile of the crash site and was subsequently impounded. Link to video: https://we.tl/t-ploashbI5X
This investigation has generated significant public interest. A related video posted on the Gastonia Police Department’s social media platforms has been viewed more than 755,000 times. The department thanks the community for the numerous tips and assistance provided.
