Cultural Classes / Student Exchange

# frames of picture showing students traveling

Each year, a select group of high school students embarks on the trip of a lifetime through the Gastonia Sister Cities student exchange program. During the school year, they attend evening Cultural Classes to prepare for a summer visit to one of our Sister Cities—Gotha, Germany or Santiago de Surco, Peru. These classes immerse students in the language, culture, and history of each destination. Since the first exchange in 1995–96, when 50 students traveled to Gotha, this has become one of Gastonia Sister Cities’ most successful and cherished programs. Many alumni have gone on to incorporate German into their careers or traveled the world maintaining lifelong friendships formed during their exchange experience.
