If you are conducting construction, whether it be a new building, an addition, or upfit within the city limits of Gastonia, the information below is meant to be a resource or guide to help you. If you are a fire protection company looking to pull a permit to install new or to modify life safety systems, look below at our plan review submittal requirements.
When a new building, addition, or upfit construction work is conducted, this usually involves a design professional. That workflow currently will see that the design professional submit a Zoning Construction/Development submittal to the City of Gastonia, and once that is approved, a submittal will need to be made to Gaston County Building Inspections. Reviews will be made by several departments within the city, including the fire department. Once the plans have been approved, submittals can be made to Gaston County Building Inspections, and permits will be issued upon approval. If your project includes the installation or modification of fire alarm, automatic sprinkler and standpipe system, automatic fire suppression system, spray paint booths (see automatic suppression requirements), blasting, underground/aboveground storage tank installation or removal, fire pumps, industrial ovens, pyrotechnics, or fireworks you need a permit from this office. Look below for submittal requirements. All of these permits need to be submitted online via the City View online portal, which can be accessed by going to https://devsvcs.gastonianc.gov/. Note, you must register for an account before submittal, and activate the account from a valid email address before using. When applying for an account, when prompted to associate the account with a contractor and business license, select NO. When the account is confirmed, navigate to the above portal page, click 'Apply for a Fire Permit,' select the application type, choose 'Fire,' and then select the work item corresponding to your activity to complete the submittal application.
