Gastonia, N.C., - February 10, 2022: Detectives from the Gastonia Police Department (GPD) are investigating two shootings that occurred yesterday afternoon and were committed by 25-year-old Rakeem Deshon McCree, of Gastonia.  In the first shooting, McCree fired multiple rounds into an occupied home on N. Edgemont Avenue.  In the second shooting, McCree fired multiple rounds into an occupied car near where the first shooting occurred. No victims were struck in the shootings. McCree and the two intended victims are known to each other. Detectives have obtained arrest warrants for McCree charging him with two counts of attempted murder and other felony offenses. Investigators are actively looking for McCree and consider him armed and dangerous. Detectives are also asking the public for any information about McCree’s whereabouts.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on February 9, GPD officers responded to a home on N. Edgemont Avenue after an adult female reported that McCree had fired shots at her house. After firing the shots, McCree fled the area in a vehicle.

Shortly after this shooting, a relative of the first victim called police reporting that McCree was now following his vehicle and had fired several shots at him.

During the investigation, officers located McCree’s vehicle parked in front of a residence on E. Fifth Avenue. For several hours, investigators worked to determine if McCree was in the home. Detectives later determined that he was not in the home.

Anyone with information about McCree’s whereabouts is asked to immediately call 9-1-1.
