(IDENTIFIED) Detectives Ask for Public’s Help Identifying Woman Found Deceased on March 11

UPDATE: April 12, 2022 - Woman Found Deceased on March 11 Identified; No Foul Play Suspected 

Detectives from the Gastonia Police Department (GPD) have identified the woman who was found deceased on March 11 in the 300 block of S. Dixie Street.

The deceased is identified as 65-year-old Veronica Cunningham of Columbia, South Carolina.

Cunningham was last seen in Richland County, South Carolina on March 5 and reported missing by her family soon after she was last seen.

There is no foul play suspected in Cunningham’s death.

The decedent was last seen alive at the Quick Trio gas station located at 1843 W. Franklin Boulevard on March 6, 2022.

Gastonia, N.C. - March 16, 2022: Detectives from the Gastonia Police Department (GPD) continue to investigate the death of an approximately sixty to seventy-year-old white female who was found deceased on March 11 in the 300 block of S. Dixie Street. Today, Investigators are releasing photographs of the woman’s tattoos and are asking the public for any information that may help to identify her. At this time, there is no foul play suspected in the woman’s death.

At approximately 5:04 p.m. on March 11, GPD officers along with fire and rescue personnel responded to S. Dixie Street for the report of an unresponsive person found lying outside. Upon arrival, fire and rescue personnel pronounced the person deceased.  

The decedent is described as follows:

  • approximately 5’4” tall, weighing approximately 155 pounds, and has shoulder-length gray hair
  • she was found wearing a denim button-up long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and brown boots.
  • she has a tattoo of a flower on her left breast and a tattoo of what appears to be an eagle on her upper right back. 
  • a black elbow brace and wrist or elbow wrap were found near the decedent.
