Gastonia, N.C. - Detectives from the Gastonia Police Department are investigating the homicide of Deionte Sparkman, age 19, of Gastonia, and the shooting of a second 19-year-old male from Gastonia that occurred this afternoon outside in the 600 block of Westwood Circle.
Today (Monday, May 16), at approximately 12:37 p.m., the Gaston County Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a shooting that just occurred in the street on Westwood Circle.
Upon arrival, first responders located Sparkman in the roadway suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators learned that the second shooting victim had been driven to a local hospital by a friend or relative. This victim has non-life-threatening injuries.
This remains an active investigation. At this time, there is no suspect information.
