??????: May 24 at 8 a.m. - Ja'Kelon Duval turned himself into GPD detectives yesterday afternoon.

Gastonia, N.C. - May 23, 2022: Detectives from the Gastonia Police Department (GPD) have obtained arrest warrants for 19-year-old Ja’Kelon Duval, who has a last known address in Gastonia, charging him for the May 16 shooting death of 19-year-old Deionte Sparkman, and the shooting of a second 19-year-old male that occurred on Westwood Circle. Investigators have determined that Duval and both victims were known to each other and detectives are asking the public for any information about Duval’s whereabouts.
Upon arrival, first responders located Sparkman in the roadway suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators learned that the second shooting victim had been driven to a local hospital by a friend or relative. This victim has non-life-threatening injuries.
During the investigation, detectives identified Duval as the suspect who shot both victims and obtained warrants for his arrest.
Duval is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about Duval’s whereabouts is asked to immediately call 9-1-1.
