Gastonia, N.C. - June 3, 2022: - Detectives from the Gastonia Police Department are investigating the death of Dalton Lewis, age 24, of the 500 block of Diane 29 Theater Road that occurred early this morning. Lewis was shot by bail bond agents who were attempting to take him into custody for outstanding warrants.
Today (Friday, June 3), at approximately 6:41 a.m., GPD officers responded to a home in the 500 block of 29 Diane Theater Road for the report of a shooting that just occurred outside the home.
Upon arrival, first responders located Lewis in a car in the driveway suffering from multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. An adult female who was also in the vehicle at the time of the shooting was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. She was not struck by gunfire.
During the investigation, detectives learned that five individuals from a bail bond agency had responded to the home on 29 Diane Theater Road looking for Lewis. The bail bond agents encountered Lewis in his vehicle and during the encounter at least one bail bond agent shot Lewis.
This remains an active investigation.
