Gastonia, N.C. - June 15, 2023: Detectives from the Gastonia Police Department are investigating the death of 23-year-old Shaniya Everett of Gastonia. Everett was found deceased yesterday evening in a wooded area near W. Airline Avenue. At this time, there is no foul play suspected in her death.
On June 14 just before 6:30 p.m., GPD officers responded to the wooded area by the train tracks between Beechwood Drive and N. Webb Street after a resident called 9-1-1 reporting they just found a deceased female.
Responding officers located the deceased female, now identified as Everett, in the woods.
Investigators are waiting for the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office to determine Everett’s manner and cause of death.
