Ward 4 - Charles M. Odom

Councilman Charles M. Odom was elected to the City Council in November 2019, bringing with him a wealth of experience and dedication to the Gastonia community. A graduate of Gaston College with a Diploma in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Charles retired from General Electric Company as a Field Service Technician after a distinguished career. He is also a licensed contractor in plumbing, electrical, and general construction in North Carolina.

A devoted husband to Clara J. Rudisill, and father of four—Marcus, Brooke, Charleston, and Caleb—and a proud “Pawpaw” to eight grandchildren, Charles balances his family life with active involvement in the community. He currently serves as a mentor to four young men attending Gaston County Schools. His past service includes roles as President of the Highland Neighborhood Association, City of Gastonia Planning Commissioner and Gastonia Housing Authority Board Member. Additionally, he has long been involved with Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, where he has served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and twice been named “Man of the Year.”

Charles is also dedicated to fostering leadership and social change, having completed several leadership programs including Leadership Gaston, the City of Gastonia Municipal Citizens Academy, and training with the Midwest Academy on Organizing for Social Change. He is committed to fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion for all people.

Throughout his career, Charles has been recognized for his contributions with a Quality of Service Award from General Electric and continues to play an active role in shaping the future of Gastonia through his work with organizations like the 2050 N.C. Moves Committee. His leadership and service have earned him respect and admiration throughout the community.
